There are so many things that we think of when we hear the word “addiction” and it’s hard to believe that one of the most common things that can trigger a physical addiction is the sugar that is in so much of our food. While it is not necessarily the same as a “drug” it can have severe effects on the body if it becomes too much a part of our diet.
Problems Caused by Eating too much Sugar
There are so many side effects to eating too much sugar along with a number of overall health problems caused in the long run.
Here are some simple indications for standard sugar in our diet, even BEFORE those junk foods: “You add it to your morning cup of coffee or tea. You bake it into pastries, cakes and cookies. You even sprinkle it all over your breakfast cereal or your oatmeal for added flavor.”
In addition to those daily diet inputs there are also things like chips, candy, ice cream and other sweets that we tend to add to our systems when we have the regular cravings for them… something along the same signs of addiction. While it is not as serious as things like illegal drugs there is both the addiction and long-term health problems to be had from over-ingestion of sugar, especially on a regular basis. There is much to be said for the ketogenic diet and its benefit in helping to reduce the reliance on sugar, and even minimize the craving for sugar.
