Connection Between Lack of Sleep and Food Cravings

Many researchers are now studying the various links between sleep deprivation and weight. One of the most significant findings to this point is that a lack of sleep tends to occur among adults who weight more. Those who don’t get enough sleep at night, as well as those who do not sleep in regular patterns throughout the night, tend to have cravings for unhealthy foods and eat in excess as well.

Both surveys and studies have collected information for almost four decades now, helping to learn how nearly 10% of all American adults. Additionally, there is much to consider with the point that more of those who are studied appear to be women than men, adding more details required to the studies.

Many studies have proven there to be a connection to shorter sleep periods as well as poor sleep quality. An incredible problem that has been found in these brief sleepers with poor patterns is the secretion of hormones that increase appetite and food cravings. The hormone ghrelin increased appetite and the other is leptin that indicates satiation. Additionally, there is the potential for greater eating without increased energy. Lack of activity reduces the number of calories burned, and those pounds continue to pack on.

Several potential ways exist to help improve sleep patterns and reduce the risk of obesity. Sleep deprivation can lead to being too tired to exercise or maintain at least a decent amount of activity. There is also the potential for poor eating habits, whether it is overeating or choosing unhealthy foods. Sometimes those times at night when you find yourself in sleep disruption in the middle of the night a sudden craving may occur in addition to regular meals during the day. All of this adding up has the highest potential to lead to obesity.

Connection Between Lack of Sleep and Obesity

Many researchers are now studying the various links between sleep deprivation and weight. One of the largest findings to this point is that a lack of sleep tends to occur among adults who weight more.

Both surveys and studies have collected information for almost 40 years now, determining that about 10% of adults were obese with more of them being women than men. Many of these studies have shown that there is a connection to shorter sleep periods as well as poor sleep quality. One of the main studies completed was based on about 60,000 women in relation to their weight, sleep habits, diet, and other lifestyle details. They all started the study completely healthy, but about 16 years later those who were sleeping under five hours per night increased their risk of obesity by about 15%. This included the potential for about 30 pounds of weight gain, at a 30% higher risk than those who slept seven hours a night.

An incredible problem that has been found in these short and poor sleepers is the secretion of hormones that increase appetite and food cravings. The hormone ghrelin increased appetite and the other is leptin that indicates satiation. Additionally, there is the potential for greater eating without increased energy. Lack of activity reduces the number of calories burned and those pounds continue to pack on.

Many researchers have found connections between social, environmental, and other lifestyle factors that affect our sleeping patterns and our weight in the long run. Many of these studies have proven the association between inadequate sleep and higher BMI is stronger in children and adolescents. It also shows that sleep deficiency in lower socioeconomic groups may result in greater associated obesity risks.

Considering the connection between obesity and diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease, there is much to evaluate in the secondary connection between lack of sleep and these as well.

All of this adding up has the greatest potential to lead to obesity.

Another Government Shutdown…

It’s only a few days in so far, but there is no effort on the part of our (you-know-what) of a president to come to an agreement with Congress. It’s hard to believe that this man thinks of himself as someone who is doing things so wonderfully for our nation when he is beyond willing to have thousands of government employees either out of work or working without pay!

There is so much that makes me wonder how much longer we will be able to stand this individual who thinks of himself as a politician and seriously seems to avoid the truly political issues in order to make himself appear to be some martyr in terms of representing his campaign promises. If he thinks that stealing five billion dollars of federal funds for this supposed wall that was not going to be paid for by the American people at all then he is incredibly mistaken.

There is so much to question when looking at these interviews that he completes on television. After going back and forth from firing one associate to another, then cutting off the benefits for our own people, there is so much more to be done.

Where do we go next? I have to tell you that something about this presidential term has left me feeling empty about living in this country. I know that many times in the past I have always felt confident about leaving my hometown, but those are personal issues. Lately, things about the battles that exist in our federal government have made me wonder what may happen soon in the manner of leading to our democracy collapsing to the ground. There seems to be nothing sturdy left about our nation at this point.

I feel like I have so much more to rant and rave about this topic, but I don’t know yet where to go. Any ideas folks? What do you think about what is happening in our nation? I would love to hear it!

Border Wall?

Okay… I know that I have to sit here on Christmas day as I question the status of the government to this day. Especially with the way that things have progressed over the past couple of years, with continual internal battles, is this something that is really worth all of the spite and anger that seems to come out of this so-called leader of our nation?

I just watched a quote that “everyone wants a wall”! Well, I know that I don’t. I know that I have seen plenty of other reports where members of Congress have fought back against this requirement that he is stating. What is this five billion dollars going to do for the nation? Honestly? There is so much more that we could do with that incredible amount of money than build a wall that was originally promised to come from the wallet of the Mexican government.

With the technology we have today is there really the need to build this massive wall? Something that people would eventually find a way to climb over on a regular basis? Something that we would have to pay for manual labor to manage in protection? There has to be something with much greater potential given all of the technology we have in our hands these days that could provide visual assistance for the protection against unwanted immigrants entering our country.

However, there is no reason for this continued rampage that simply pursues the idea that every single immigrant who enters our country is a criminal. With children who have passed away after being taken from their families to those who have been locked away as criminals, there is so much more that we could do in order to help maintain a steady process or method of handling these people that so much desire the positive nature of the American culture

Future of “Gig” Careers in the American Economy

As of 2018 we already have a number of properly supported fields that are beneficial to working in a “gig” state, at least where you are able to work as a freelancer or for yourself. I know that as a writer I like the ability to work in these terms, especially in the fact that I am able to contract myself out for projects and employers that I see to be the greatest fit for my skills. Working from home is an incredible benefit in this day in age, especially with the ability to avoid traffic and other troubles of the commute and sometimes of the workplace in general.

There have been articles written over the past year or so as to the most common fields in which it enters a career under the gig economy.  Some of these include:

  1. Deep Learning Jobs
  2. Blockchain Jobs
  3. Robotics Jobs
  4. Cryptocurrency / Bitcoin
  5. Ethical Hackers
  6. Virtual Reality
  7. Amazon Web Services, Lambda Jobs
  8. ReactJS Developers
  9. Final Cut Pro Jobs
  10. Instagram Marketing Jobs

With the ability to enter most of these careers that pay about $40 per hour or more, it is also nice to have the ability to work freelance. There are many benefits to building your own career, even if you have developed a contract under a company that pays for your services. It may not be the same as building a company of your own, but there is often a great deal of freedom and flexibility of your work.

Often there is the ability to take on a couple of different part-time projects together rather than just one full-time job where you sit in the same office every day. There is even the ability to negotiate on your own terms the level of work you will do for someone, without the worry of having a manager slouched over your shoulder every second of the day. The basic summary is that there are a number of well-paying jobs out there that also offer a decent amount of freedom and independence for your own life.

Ready for the New Year?

Well, is there anyone who could actually say that they are fully prepared for the new year? Do you have something new coming on for which you are completely prepared? I know that I am starting graduate school again after the first of the year and I am terrified about how well I may actually be prepared. It’s been ten years, and I have to admit that I’m scared to death.

What about all of you who have a new job starting? Or those of you who are having a baby this coming year? Any other challenges that are entering your lives? I know there is a part of me that feels like there will never be enough time to take care of everything well enough, never a proper schedule that will lead to a well-managed day. I know that I was crazy trying to handle everything last time I was in school and working, and I know it will likely be the same this time.

So, what do all of you have to do this coming year? What are the worries already on the table? Any challenges for which you must prepare early? Well, with any early preparation there are only a couple of days to finish doing so! It’s hard to believe that 2018 has flown by so quickly. Additionally, it is hard to know what to expect in 2019, given the various events that have overtaken all of us this year. So much change and negativity have overtaken many different parts of the world that it is hard to believe there would be the ability for improvement in the incoming months.
