So Many Questions and Concerns for Motherhood

I know that one of the topics I think about most often is that of motherhood, especially my own place in that role. I can honestly say that my pregnancy was a surprise and that I didn’t know that to pick up for myself in pulling the strings of motherhood together… But there are times that I watch movies or television, or books that I read, that make me think more and more about the roles all mothers play in this world to help keep things going. motherhood 2

Most recently I was watching Erin Brockovich one afternoon and looking at motherhood and professional inspiration alike from both the story of a poor woman raising her children alone and the actress’s charms of Julia Roberts. I have tried from very early in my son’s life to be able to handle both of the parental roles while bringing in the entire income of the home, but I wonder sometimes what the capability of all of that can be. There is so much to consider in being a single mother not collecting child support, and especially being that single mother working her ass off to keep building a professional life as well in order to improve that life at home as much as possible.

It is wonderful to consider myself in the strengths that I have to keep my house together, especially including the difficulties that I have overcome to bring life back to livable. I know that relationships with the kids can always become difficult when there is the worry about a job being more important than motherhood, and I saw that part of the movie where Erin’s son expresses frustration at bedtime due to her excessive attention to work. I know that I went through a wonderful period at one point where I had a lot of comfortable standards put together in this life, but then I let my fears and worries get the best of me.

So, I like to see both the relation and motivation of other mothers who have made the same natural fight as me in attempts to care for their children on their own. I know that I have a great amount of assistance from my family, and they helped a great deal in letting me complete my education and move further into my dreams among the professional world. I wonder sometimes whether employers separate me from others considering my need to place my son at a priority, especially when I always had to leave in time to pick him up from daycare and make sure that we were ready to keep plans organized and situated for all of his activities.

Looking at a single mother like the one in the movie I see myself with the same defensive and protective personality, both my son and myself, working toward both our sets of dreams in the world. There is a great amount to fight for, especially with the economic difficulties causing problems in the workforce and my nervous nature at interviews, no matter how qualified I feel for those positions which I have applied. There are so many other pieces of the world that often feel as though they are falling down around me, considering the fact that I am no longer a full family with my son enjoying his life out in the country with his grandparents. There are so many difficulties to make sure that life advances with all the glitter of professional dreams, fighting to maintain as many positions as possible in order to move forward both financially and with impression in my profession. So, trying to be a great and employee and mother at the same time is a conflicting internal battle… I know that I have much to continue working on for myself, but I hope that I will be able to work with many other to advance the state of mothers around the globe!

Take a note here… months later, as I have taken the time to look through so many books available by intelligent and experienced mothers out there, that there is a great deal to expect in the wonderful yet challenging work of a mother. I know that my life is not the one of a traditional mother, but it is still the most important thing in my life. There are so many wonderful authors and women out there with millions of pieces of advice to offer to new mothers and mothers facing the most difficult days of their relationships with their children. I think it would be helpful to read!

A Nation Divided

There is so much to question today. Especially over the past eight months. We have welcomed a billionaire corporate leader into the most elite leadership position of our country and the only way that he wants to communicate with the American people is via the limitations of Twitter.

nation divided 2Now we have the near entertainment of facing a president who concerns himself more with his own presentation as the man in the seat at the head of the table, rather than the safety of the people in our nation who have been overcome by so many horrible incidents since his inauguration. Should we as a people be worried about a president who seems to be screaming “Me, me, me!!!” from the podium without any question for what the next steps should be in benefit of those who have suffered from incredible natural disaster, human torment and much more. He would rather stand up with a big sign (or a little tweet) and constantly rant on and on about how much better he is than the presidents before him.

It has gotten to the point all these months after he entered the White House that even representatives of his own side have decided not to run for office again next year. It seems like statements have been slowly made from West to East by Republicans across the country that there is just too much controversy and argument to handle again in the coming year.

Now, with the Thanksgiving weekend behind us and our ‘president’ back in D.C., I have to only ask where the next tornado of Capitol Hill challenges will lead. I know that when I jog on the treadmill to tweak out my stresses of the day or week, for some reason I have the tendency to turn on CNN or some other news channel just to read the closed captioning of what those Senate and House members are yelling back and forth at each other. It’s gotten to the point that not only are the lobbyist and other groups of this country divided, but our own government seems to find it harder and harder to communicate in their meetings. With the next deadline coming up, I have to wonder what will happen. What do you think?!?!?!

Homosexuality in the Church

Equality. That is all I have to say. There was an amazing story on the news here in Cincinnati a while ago about a local church that was able to help the position of their homosexual minister and having charges against him released. It is exciting to see that there is finally progress being made in one of the most conservative venues to the ability for equality to be seen from all corners of the room.

There is a Methodist church here in town, where their homosexual minister leads a wonderful life with his husband with whom he was married by a pastor of the church. While there is one remaining charge against him since there is still limitation about being married in this manner within the church. I can only hope that will be released as well, and that some of these regulations and limitations will be re-evaluated within the upper members of the clergy and hopefully realize that a person’s sexuality is a completely separate part of their being from their belief in God and Jesus. homosexuality in the church 2

I believe that there is every right for complete equality for anyone who is homosexual, transgender or other issue of inequality. Rights are deserved within the church as much as they are in public, school, workplace and everywhere else.

So, reading some of the published articles about this topic there appears to be much more controversy in the matter of morality rather than sex. Apparently, the leadership of many different denominations believe that the support of gay marriage in the church downplays the authority of scripture as a whole. I have to disagree with this personally, but possibly that it because I have the perception of reading the Bible in the similar fashion as I would poetry or literature.

I like the story of a local minister mentioned above who has stood up so strongly for himself and his own beliefs, while still presenting his faith and belief in the scripture and church. There is no reason at all to determine the ability for a couple or an individual to be a part of any church just because of their sexuality. Everyone is still a person who has the right to carry out each of their own beliefs as they see fit.

I guess what it seems to be is to be a double-edged sword within an environment that is supposedly so accepting and welcoming to discard and discriminate against people for this one simple reason. I know that I would love to see the added words presented to combine the ability for these leaders of the church to stand out for the voice of the public. There is no reason for the poetic and beloved word of the Bible to tell any individual that their identity or belief is wrong. Everyone has the opportunity to believe in both their own individuality along with God and our savior Jesus Christ.

My View of the Truth Behind Immigration Laws

While teaching English as a Second Language for factory workers in a local town, there is definitely something that has made me think so much about all of the news stories that have arisen over the past six months or so with all of the border issues coming along with President Trump’s lack-luster systems and over-vocal procedures. There are so many immigrants who set goals for themselves simply to earn their way into the United States for the freedoms they would gain, as well as the rights that would be gained for the future generations for their families. I can sit and look at the response of one man when he can hardly understand a word out of my mouth when I try to ask where he came from, the name of his wife and if they have any children. There was some sort of emotion and almost heart-stopping fearful love that were a sort of confirmation that he was putting all of this work and effort into his work to help ensure that a quality life is kept for himself and his family.

It almost breaks into mockery the way that our current President, who happens to have reached so many of the “American Dreams” on his own, is fighting with incredible strength to push out millions of individuals who have put so much energy into gaining the dreams of their own. Historically, the American theory or goal was also based on the premise to expand the population, open to people around the world who were looking to gain the freedoms that would be so much warmer and more welcoming here on our land. immigration 2

And now, seeing this in person there is much for me to realize about how I really feel about this situation and the intense level at which it has been taking over our news over the past six months or so. Upon learning that mothers, fathers, grandparents and other heads of their households have been forced out of the country only to leave behind their native orphan family members, there is something abusive about what is being done around the country.

In the same manner I think it is so wonderful to see employers such as these industrial plants that are investing in these immigrants and helping to work toward the growth of their goals and promotion within the workplace. While the impression of potential dirt within the American population, there is nothing better than to see the fact that many of these individuals have placed a great amount of their own effort into improvement, not into taking advantage of the American government in any way. It is wonderful to see what they have helped to do with many of our nation’s industries rather than the impression that our over-invasive president has presented to the public as to the feeling that immigrants have been working to take over the United States rather than integrate themselves into our culture. However, there are many reasons to see the wonderful people they are working to become and the future generations of hard workers and spirited individuals that they have brought here to us as well.

I know that I still have much to learn from this project that I have acquired, but I also hope to dig deeper into this issue that has affected so many families locally and nationally. There is no reason to kick someone out of a place they have made their home for many years!

Epilepsy for Me

For all of my friends and family there is a great knowledge for the influence which my own epilepsy has had on life over the past twenty or so years, but there is so much to be learned for everything that can be done for everyone else in the world facing the various difficulties and challenges of epilepsy on a daily basis.

I know that I wrote an extremely interesting article a little over a year ago on the Ketogenic Diet for Epilepsy, helping raise the point (at least to myself) of some of the natural health benefits that are possible for not only epilepsy and seizure but other conditions faced within the human body. It’s hard to believe that after all of these years there must be some natural ways to help add control to the occurrence of my seizures without constantly changing medication or facing the potential of brain surgery. epilepsy 2

I guess so many people think of the straightforward common definition of epilepsy as in just being the occurrence of grand mal seizures with an individual falling on the floor in convulsions. I personally know this is not the case, and that I myself have faced at least two different types of seizures over my own over the past twenty years, while I cannot speak for others who may have had completely different experiences. I am sure there are plenty of individuals around the world who could stand to learn plenty more about the seizures that their friends, family, colleagues and others around them may be facing on a daily basis.

So, in researching dietary supplements for my seizure medications it does appear that there are plenty of options to be looked into, which I will likely discuss in more detail later, but I know that spreading my voice and hope for successful treatment of this difficult condition to others under the same fall of darkness. I wish the best to all of you others with your own epileptic seizures or children or others close to you with epilepsy and hope to help lead you to some positive research in adding to the medical treatments which do not always prove effective.

It is wonderful to know that there are so many places for all of us with epilepsy and relatives facing this condition including a community called My Epilepsy Team, which I have joined and love seeing daily responses of others who face the same challenges as me. The Epilepsy Foundation of America  and also stood up for National Epilepsy Month, with locations all over the country to connect with patients and their families. We all need to work together in support of those facing this life altering disease!

Environmental Impact of Christmas Trees

The real Christmas trees can provide a life cycle, both being grown constantly on farms and then biodegradable for recycling after the season and can be used as mulch all around your region. We all know that the myth of cutting down Christmas trees annually is making a reduction upon the environment, however many studies have been completed that this is the most effective choice for a Christmas tree inside the home. There is much to appreciate about the history of the real Christmas tree here in America and its many facts and environmental impacts.

christmas trees 2

There is a long and supportive study provided by the North Carolina Christmas Tree Association proving that the natural Christmas tree is the most beneficial choice. Since these trees are grown regularly on American plantation farms and help to maintain the national green space. Additionally, fake trees are produced across different Asian nations and do absolutely nothing to help the environment or our nation.

There is another list of benefits provided by the National Christmas Tree Association showing the environmental benefits of the consistent and regular use of the real evergreen tree throughout the holiday season. The many facts that the real Christmas tree is renewable, recyclable and helping to preserve green spaces show the many benefits across the country.

It is also helpful to see websites of Christmas Tree Farms to see the farming methods used to keep regular amounts of trees available annually for the holiday season. The following is stated from The Middleburg Tree Farm:

A single farmed tree absorbs more than 1 ton of CO2 throughout its lifetime. Since more than 350 million real Christmas trees are growing in U.S. tree farms and the average tree is harvested after 10 years, tree farms sequester about 35 million tons of CO2 per year which is the equivalent of the CO2 produced to provide electric power to 3 million Americans every year.

In order to ensure a healthy supply of Christmas trees each year, growers must use sustainable farming techniques. For each tree harvested, three seedlings are planted the following spring, ensuring a healthy supply of trees. Largely because the cultivation of Christmas trees is a very recent phenomenon they are still very hardy and pest resistant. Use of pesticides is minimal and most growers mow between trees and avoid the use of herbicides.”

There is much to see in the work that these farms provide to benefit our environment and economy here in the United States. No true benefit of the fake Christmas tree has been proven, so there is always much to be seen from maintaining the historical American tradition of bringing in a real tree to the home every year.

Why You Need A Programmable Thermostat in Your Home

Recently, programmable thermostats have become more standard in homes across the nation. Many homeowners are finding that making a simple change from a manual thermostat to a programmable one offers many benefits to your wallet, your home and your comfort.

Adding a programmable thermostat to your heating, ventilation and air conditioning unit is an easy project that you can quickly do on your own. You simply purchase a thermostat, and then remove your old unit from the wall, noting where and how the wires are connected. Next, you connect the wires to your new thermostat. It’s important to read over your new thermostat’s installation and setup guide in order to take advantage of all that it can offer your system.

thermostat 21. Saving Money

The biggest benefit programmable thermostats offer is the cost savings. Energy bills continue to rise in all parts of the world, and the best way to combat this is to try to reduce your energy usage.

With programmable thermostats, you can adjust the temperature to the exact point of your own personal comfort. For every degree you raise or lower the temperature in your home during the heat of the summer or the cold of winter, you can save up to 2 percent on your utility bill. You don’t have to keep your air conditioning or heat on high while you’re away from home. You can create a schedule that follows your family’s routine, and keeps the temperature cool or warm while you’re there, but eases up on the energy usage when you’re not home.

2. A Consistent Temperature

Another big plus of programmable thermostats is their ability to help you maintain the perfect, consistent temperature throughout your home. Instead of cranking the air conditioner on high during the height of a heat wave, programmable thermostats can run at a constant level. During the freezing cold of the winter, your heat can stay steady as it follows your programmed temperature schedule.

With the help of a programmable thermostat, your family and friends can feel more comfortable in your home all year long, and you can avoid major hot or cold spots in different areas of your house.

3. Less Time Adjusting

Homeowners also love the fact that they can spend less time adjusting their thermostat with a programmable version. With a manual thermostat, it can take some practice and extra time to go through the steps of setting the temperature during different times of the day. When it’s time to leave your house, you have to go back to the wall unit and make adjustments — a practice many of us neglect in the first place. Then, you have to readjust every time you come home, when you go off to bed and when you wake up in the morning.

Using a programmable thermostat can eliminate all of that time spent in front of your manual device. You can set a schedule one time per season, and then forget about it, so you can focus on feeling comfortable instead.

4. Increase Your Home’s Efficiency

Keeping your home energy-efficient is one of the top maintenance issues that homeowners think about throughout the change of seasons. A more efficient home can utilize its resources more effectively and bring less wear and tear to major appliances and systems. Our nation may be facing energy shortages in the future, and it’s important to make sure your home doesn’t contribute to energy wastefulness and negative environmental impacts. Using a programmable thermostat is one thing you can do to help curb your waste.

5. Keep Your HVAC System Optimized

Before installing a brand new HVAC system, most contractors give residents recommendations to try first before committing to such a large purchase. If your HVAC system is older or not as efficient, before you invest in buying a new one, you may want to try pairing it with a programmable thermostat to help it do its job. When you reduce the workload and help your appliance work at its best, this can give it a little more time to get you through the season.

If you do need to replace your HVAC unit, you can help keep your new purchase in top condition with a scheduled system of heating and cooling.

6. Take Advantage of Time

Another benefit of programmable thermostats is that they allow you to take advantage of the different times of day and the temperature variations depending on the position of the sun and the season. When the morning or afternoon sun starts to heat up your home during the peak times of the summer months, you can adjust your cooling schedule. Likewise, during the colder parts of the year, you can reduce your heating power and let the warmth of the sun help take over the warming duties. During the cold winter nights, you’ll likely need to boost your HVAC’s heating power to help keep your family comfortable.

7. Use High Tech Tools

Newer models of programmable thermostats are coming equipped with many different varieties of high tech tools, such as Wi-Fi ability or technology that allows you to control your thermostat using a laptop, tablet or smartphone. Having a thermostat that is connected to your home network can help you create a truly linked home that can be easily controlled from the comfort of your couch or virtually anywhere. If you are on vacation and you notice that there is an unseasonably warm or cold day back home, you can adjust the temperature of your house thermostat easily from your device.

8. Maximize Zoned Heating and Cooling

The final way that programmable thermostats can help keep your residence running smoothly is if you have multiple climate zones within your home. Different zones around your home can already increase the energy efficiency of your property. With programmable controls in each zone, you can truly customize each climate and temperature throughout your home’s square footage.

Benefits of Programmable Thermostats

Spending the small amount of money that is needed for a programmable thermostat can be one of the most cost effective investments for your residence. You can expect to take advantage of additional energy savings that may be reflected in a lower utility bill. Beyond the money savings, programmable thermostats can help you maintain the best and coziest atmosphere throughout your interior spaces.
